Walking through century-old streets as a kid, looking at the Portuguese colors and the tiles in the buildings, and living the open-minded metropolis culture of my hometown in this little European corner inspired me. The work I've been doing for the last 25+ years has been heavily influenced by this background and by experiences like an Industrial Designer degree I got in 2002 and the various projects I've gone through in my professional career. At the beginning of my career, in 1998, I worked as a product designer for the ceramic and glass industry, where I created a series of pieces for tableware and decoration. In 2002, I started helping architects and landscape designers with 3D visualizations. This led me to large-scale CAD/3D projects. I learned a lot about the importance of putting all the pieces together to achieve a goal and the symbiotic relationship between architects and engineering, creativity, and science. In 2003, my transition to digital was a natural one. I taught myself HTML and CSS and started working in a small agency building websites for clients. The Internet became my passion, and I've been working on digital products ever since. At Sapo (https://www.sapo.pt/), 2009 to 2016, I led design teams and was very fortunate to work with amazing people — some of the very best in their fields. Together we were able to launch very impactful products that reached an international scale. The latest big challenge in my career was to co-found Bright Pixel (https://brpx.com/) and lead the creative department. I worked directly with startups and big companies rethinking their digital product experience. It was an immensely rewarding experience that broadened my knowledge of business, marketing, and strategy. In 2023, I joined the Ethereum Foundation (https://ethereum.org) as a Lead Product Designer, focusing on improving the user experience of ethereum.org and developing tools for the Ethereum ecosystem. Prior to this role, I served as the Head of Design and Innovation at Trojan Horse was a Unicorn (https://www.trojan-unicorn.com/) from 2020 to 2023, where I led design initiatives for one of the world's most prestigious digital arts events. --- ## Career Timeline - **1998–2002:** Product designer, ceramic and glass industry (tableware and decoration) - **2002–2008:** 3D/CAD visualisation for architects and landscape designers - **2003–2009:** Web design at a small agency; self-taught HTML/CSS - **2009–2016:** Design lead at Sapo — Portugal's largest web portal (MEO/PT Telecom). Events, conferences, and the design community in general played a big role in that — they were places where I found inspiration, made friends, and got exposed to ideas that shaped the way I think and work. Speaking is my way of trying to give something back. I don't do it often, but when the topic feels right and the audience is people who care about design as much as I do, I try to say yes. ### "My mother will not use it" — Devcon SEA, November 2024 - **Event:** Devcon SEA, Bangkok, Thailand - **Date:** November 2024 - **Video:** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=147hrjj2onM - **Hosted by:** Ethereum Foundation A talk at Devcon SEA about UX challenges in the Ethereum ecosystem and making products accessible to everyday users. --- ### Is Design the Final Frontier to Mass Adoption? — Duct Tape / ETH Prague, 2024 - **Event:** Duct Tape at ETH Prague - **Date:** 2024 - **Video:** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtAi_-fyK8g - **Hosted by:** Duct Tape Discussing whether better design is the key barrier to mainstream adoption of decentralized technologies. --- ### Web2 to Web3: Pitfalls and Opportunities — designFAO, 2023 - **Event:** designFAO - **Date:** 2023 - **Video:** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VN_QcjlyzE - **Hosted by:** designFAO Exploring the design challenges and opportunities when transitioning from web2 to web3 products. --- ### Is Design a Job of the Future? — designFAO / Design is for Everyone, 2023 - **Event:** designFAO — Design is for Everyone - **Date:** 2023 - **Video:** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pP52nGnPibI - **Hosted by:** designFAO Panel discussion on the future of design as a profession and the role designers play in shaping technology. --- ### From Product Design to Product Design — Pixels Camp, 2019 - **Event:** Pixels Camp - **Date:** 2019 - **Video:** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-plGKAm2GUw - **Hosted by:** Pixels Camp A journey through the evolution of product design practice and how the discipline has changed over the years. --- ## Contact - **Email:** mail@nloureiro.com - **LinkedIn:** https://www.linkedin.com/in/nloureiro/ - **GitHub:** https://github.com/nloureiro - **Bluesky:** https://bsky.app/profile/nloureiro.bsky.social - **Farcaster/Warpcast:** https://warpcast.com/nloureiro - **Twitter/X:** https://twitter.com/nloureiro - **CV/Resume:** https://nloureiro.com/assets/cv.pdf
